Program Description

Event Details

Do you ever feel stressed, overwhelmed, or stuck in negative thought/behavior patterns? Have you ever wondered what therapy and counseling is really like, and whether or not it works? Join us on Saturdays in June for a 4-week introductory series on one helpful resource available here in Brownsburg – Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Chase Cotten, Operations Director for The Willow Center, will help attendees better understand the therapeutic process, as well as introduce the four core skill modules of DBT: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness.

Topic Schedule:

  • Saturday, June 6th, 2pm-3pm: Mindfulness
    • Learn about the introductory principles of developing awareness of the present moment without judgment, and how to become more attuned to your own thoughts, feelings, and senses.
  • Saturday, June 13th, 2pm-3pm: Distress Tolerance
    • Learn about the introductory strategies to cope with and tolerate intense emotions or crises without resorting to impulsive, harmful, or self-destructive behaviors.
  • Saturday, June 20th, 2pm-3pm: Emotion Regulation
    • Learn about the introductory steps of identifying and managing emotions, reducing vulnerability to intense emotional reactivity, and increasing positive emotional experiences.
  • Saturday, June 27th, 2pm-3pm: Interpersonal Effectiveness
    • Learn about the introductory skills for navigating conflict, setting boundaries, asking for needs to be met, and communicating effectively while maintaining self-respect.
